A Ring means - any annular or circular organ, structure, or area. Following are the common rings in Anatomy. A ring of lymphoid tissue found in the throat. The Waldeyer’s ring is made up of the tonsils, adenoids, and other lymphoid tissue. It contains lymphocytes (a type of immune cell) that help the body fight infection and disease. Waldeyer's ring consists of four tonsillar structures (namely, the pharyngeal, tubal, palatine and lingual tonsils) as well as small collections of lymphatic tissue disbursed throughout the mucosal lining of the pharynx (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, MALT). Waldeyer's ring was named after the nineteenth-century German anatomist Heinrich Wilhelm Gottfried von Waldeyer-Hartz. The clinical significans W R. is The palatine tonsils when inflamed/swollen, more common in children, can obstruct respiration. Inflammation of the tonsils is called tonsillitis. So this article focuses on Anatomical structure, function and clinical significans of Waldeyer’s ring.
