Title

“A Study to assess the level of anxiety among the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging

Abstract

RESEARCH ABSTRACT “A Study to assess the level of anxiety among the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging at Chatrapati Shivaji Subharti hospital in Meerut”. OBJECTIVES • To assess the level of anxiety in patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging. • To find out the association between the level of anxiety in patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging with their selected demographic variable. HYPOTHESIS: H1:There will be significant association between the level of anxiety the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging with their demographic variable. Before conducting the main study, the researcher met the concerned authorities in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Subhatri Hospital in Meerut and obtained the permission for the data collection. The data was collected after explaining the procedure to the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging with their oral consent. The patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique. First we collected demographic data from samples and followed by administered the tool STAI to assess level of anxiety. Data was collected before the procedure itself. The investigator has selected 60 patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging. The STAI is a validated 20 items self report assessment device which includes separate measures of state and trait anxiety. The original STAI tool was constructed by Charles and Descripive statistics were used to analyze the findings of the study. In our assessment out of total (60) 100% to assess the level of anxiety among the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging, among the population of 60 samples, table shows that overall perceived level of anxiety was (60)100%where (3) 5% of them were having mild level of anxiety,(13) 21.6% of them were having moderate level of anxiety where (44)73% were having severe level of anxiety. The mean score is 51.88 out of 80 score and standard deviation is 5.54. This study revealed that all the patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging were having mild, moderate and severe level of anxiety and there is no association between the level of anxiety among patient undergoing magnetic resonance imaging with their selected demographic variables. The chi square calculated value of demographic variables is lesser than the table value which shows there was no association between the level of anxiety with their demographic variable. Study revealed that all the patients were having moderate and severe level of anxiety. Key words: Assess, Knowledge, level of anxiety, magnetic resonance imaging
