Title

IMPACT ON CUSTOMERS OF LOGISTICS AND MARKETING STRATEGIES OF THE E-COMMERCE COMPANIES

Abstract

While the positive effects of e-commerce on the corporate world are widely acknowledged, they are seldom examined critically. In this study, we make an effort to illustrate the e-commerce industry's underlying logistically pertinent characteristics and the effects they have outsourcing logistics services to. Since logistics is considered crucial to any successful online business, this seems to be of great significance. However, the specialised businesses in this area are sometimes overlooked. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy of e-commerce's logistical effects, splitting them into (a) the proliferation of online marketplaces and (b) the disintermediation of various parts of the supply chain. By dissecting these two broad classes and the key logistical concerns associated with them, we are able to draw important strategic conclusions for the logistics industry as a whole.
