Title

Studies on Physico-Chemical and Catalytic Properties of Non-Stoichoimetric Oxides of Inner Transition Metals

Abstract

Surface acidity and excess surface oxygen of the samples obtained from solid state decomposition of carbonates of Yttrium, Cerium and Praseodymium have been measured. Apparent activation energy involved in these processes have been calculated. Catalytic decomposition of hydrazine has been studied. It has been observed that excess surface oxygen decreases as the decomposition temperature increases in case of cerium and is not at all related to the oxygen content of the samples. The same observation is found in case of acidity measurements. It is observed that there is no definite relationship between excess surface oxygen and acidity of the samples. The catalytic decomposition of hydrazine over Praseodymium oxide catalysts has been studied. It has been found that the oxide sample obtained at 9600 C possesses the highest catalytic activity and it has also been observed that higher the decomposition temperature the greater is the catalytic activity towards the decomposition of hydrazine
