Warships are complex platforms with a wide range of equipment and systems to carry out the operational tasks envisaged for a particular class of ship. It is imperative that the warships remain continuously in a high state of operational readiness to meet any contingencies. Construction of warships from keel upwards to super structure with highest quality standards in terms of men and material is of veritable necessity. Warships are equipped with equipment and systems depending upon the role of the ship and ought to be always combat ready. In all the three categories namely- float, move and fight capabilities, wherein quality standards required for warships in a most stringent environmental conditions are to be met with. Inter-operability of systems, shock and vibration standards, environmental conditions in which the equipment and systems are required to operate are totally different and utmost stringent. MSMEs , the backbone of any nation, must meet highest standards of quality called upon in warship building, to achieve self-reliance and in turn Atma Nirbhar Bharat. This indeed is a major challenge for MSMEs to be engaged in warship building. This paper examines various aspects of Quality Assurance and evolve indicators for ensuring Quality assurance for the MSMEs to be involved in warship building and remain sustainable.
