Title

Improvement of Sub-grade Characteristics of Clayey Soil Using Soda Lime Glass Powder and Sodium Alginate Dust

Abstract

Soil stabilization is a common method to enhance the properties of soil with different stabilizers. Soil stabilization increases the physical properties of soil such as strength and bearing potential. Stabilization refers to convert the clayey soil rigid by binding the soil particles strongly and resisting weak properties of soil. The laboratory studies are carried out to understand the behaviour of soda lime glass powder and sodium alginate in the clayey soil sub-grade. Laboratory tests conducted are preliminary tests of clayey soil and California bearing test (CBR) the clayey soil by inclusion of waste soda lime glass powder (WSLGP) in varying percentages like 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% and 15%. And, also sodium alginate (SA) in varying percentages like 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%, 1.25% with inclusion of optimum percentage of soda lime glass powder in clayey soil. The maximum bearing strength is obtained at optimum 12% of WSLGP and 1% of SA content.
