Title
ANTIRAPE SURAKSHA APPLICATION
Abstract
As an evergreen area, mobile technology has been rapidly growing for many decades. The usage of smartphones equipped with GPS navigation has significantly increased to over 90% in recent years. However, there is an increasing concern for personal safety, especially for women. In response to this concern, a personal safety app called "Suraksha" has been developed for Android smartphones.
The name "Suraksha" means "be secure or safe from trouble" in Hindi, and the app can be activated by clicking the power button of the smartphone thrice when the user (sender) feels insecure. When the app is activated, it communicates the user's current location to the predefined registered user's (receiver) contact number for every 30 seconds in the form of a text message. If the receiver's mobile is in silent mode, it automatically changes to general mode and notifies with a message "I'm in danger..." along with the latitude and longitude address of the sender repeatedly. Another feature of the Suraksha app is the ability to capture the surrounding image (photo) by shaking the sender's mobile. This captured image will be sent to the predefined email of the receiver. The registered contact and GPS location are updated and saved in a database. The Suraksha app has been tested in various locations and has obtained satisfactory results. The app ensures the safety of the user and can provide a sense of security for individuals who may feel vulnerable in certain situations. The app was developed using Android Studio, an integrated development environment (IDE) specifically designed for Android app development. Java programming language was used to develop the application's functionality, and XML was used to design the user interface. Other technologies used in the development of the Suraksha app include Google Maps API, which provides accurate location data, and SQLite, a lightweight and efficient relational database management system. In conclusion, the Suraksha app provides a solution to the growing concern of personal safety, especially for women. The app is designed to be user-friendly, and its features ensure that users can notify their registered contacts in case of an emergency. The use of mobile technology in personal safety applications has the potential to revolutionize the way individuals approach safety concerns
