This paper provides a literature review on Thermoelectric Subcoolers and their application in various other vapour compression refrigeration systems. Several configurations of VCRS with thermoelectric subcoolerare well summarized in this paper. The key to a more efficient refrigeration system is a Vapour Compression Refrigeration Cycle with more efficiency and high Coefficient of Performance. Subcooling of the refrigerant after gas cooler or condenser increases the overall COP and efficiency of the cycle. There are mainly two types of subcooling- Mechanical subcooling and thermoelectric subcooling. Recent studies have demonstrated that adding thermoelectric subcooling to conventional VCRS after the gas cooler or condenser offers several benefits. The gaps in these studies have been identified and stated. It should be noted that the efficiency of the compressor and the temperature of the gas cooler outlet have a significant impact on the total system efficiency. The studies also highlight the paucity of research in a number of areas connected to the vapour compression refrigeration cycle.
