The textile industry is looking for new production methods to boost product quality, and society needs new finishing methods that protect the environment. Because they may alter the surface properties of inert materials, often using environmentally friendly technologies, plasma surface treatments have clear advantages. By applying atmospheric plasma to the surface of textile fibres, certain desired properties are imparted, including wettability, adhesion promotion, and surface energy, creating a pre-barrier effect that will not only permit the adhesion of particle-loaded liquids on the surface of the fibre but will also maintain very good air permeability. This article provides a review of the plasma treatment that is given to textiles of both natural and synthetic origin for use in the textile industry.
