Attendance is one of the activities that need to be carried out compulsorily on a daily basis in a number of institutions and organizations including schools, colleges, offices, etc. There are two conventional techniques to mark attendance of students in a particular class. One of them is by calling the roll number and the second is to take students sign on a piece of paper against their roll number. Hence there was a need to evolve this system in such a way that it could become user friendly, less time consuming and efficient. The main purpose of this project is to create an attendance marking system based on face recognition techniques for various institutions to improve the current attendance system and be more efficient and effective as compared to before. The human face is one of the natural features with which a person can be uniquely identified. Therefore, it is used to track characters and features, as deviations or duplication rarely occur on the face. In this project, Open CV is used for face recognition. It includes a camera that captures an input image, an algorithm for detecting face from the input image, identifying the face, and marking the attendance in a MongoDB database as well as storing the attendance data in an excel sheet..
