Title

INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF REVOLUTIONARY PITCH ON STRENGTH OF JOINTS PRODUCED BY FRICTION STIR WELDING

Abstract

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state welding process. It is extensively used due to some potential advantages over conventional fusion welding processes, like good mechanical and metallurgical properties, ease of automation, good appearances and improved safety. Various process parameters like tool rotation, welding speed, tool geometry and work piece positioning are the factors which influence the quality of joints. The aluminum alloys of 6xxx series are widely used for various purposes like structural applications and various sectors as automobile and space craft. The term joint efficiency is used to express strength of welded joints as compare to base material. The influence of process parameters on joint strength and joint efficiency for Al6082 aluminum alloy is examined in this paper by keeping the other parameters constant. The objective of this research work is to optimize the friction stir welding process parameters to increase the quality and strength of joints.
