This research tries to bring out the subaltern narrative in Mulk Raj Anand’s novel “The Untouchable” through the portrayal of the subaltern character name Bakha, a scavenger who was humiliated and cursed of his very existence. The Postcolonial and subaltern theories have the power to disrupt the representation of the colonised in the mainstream literature by rewriting history from their standpoint and so is Mr. Anand, through his novel, questioned the very structure of the prevailing caste system in India through his narrative. The portrayal of the vivid description of living condition intact the authenticity of the lower class without any biases. This research explores the subaltern’s representation of their experience, struggles and their desire to escape from their wretched fate and their intersection with the upper class. By highlighting the subaltern narrative in “Untouchable”, this research contributes to the understanding of subaltern theories.
