Title

Design And Analysis Of Tubular Lower Control Arm For ,Macpherson Strut Suspension

Abstract

Conventional lower control arm made out of sheet metal by stampingmanufacturing process. The lower control arm of one of passenger car is taken as baseline part. This part is measured for all it’s critical dimension & based on measured data 3D cad model is created in CAD software. The analysis of lower control arm is performed by applying material & appropriate boundary conditions. After analysis we got the performance target of baseline lower control arm. Based on baseline lower control arm model, tubular lower control arm model is created so that, the hard point dimensions are maintained. Various material for tubes were studied for their mechanical properties. After that analytical calculations are performed so that, the tube sizes can be calculated. Various tube sizes were studied for probable weight & performance target. By analytical method, some of performance parameters were calculated like stress, deflection and stiffness. After that CAE analysis of tubular lower control arm was carried out. In CAE, we found various performance parameters like stress, deflection, stiffness and mode frequency. Results obtained by analytical methods are compared with that of CAE analysis method . It was found that both the results are close to one another. Weight reduction because of tubular lower control arm against the conventional sheet metal lower control arm is checked.
