The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a network comprised of embedded devices that possess individual and discernible identifiers, and that are equipped with specialized software utilized for communication purposes when transitioning between various states. The primary objective of this review is to investigate the specific security hurdles confronting discrete aspects of the IoT with respect to the presently implemented IoT standards and protocols. The gravity of IoT failures necessitates heightened emphasis on the investigation and exploration of security concerns within the IoT landscape. As such, the field of IoT security research holds paramount importance. The primary aim of IoT security is to uphold privacy and confidentiality, safeguard the security of IoT users, infrastructures, data, and devices, and ensure the uninterrupted availability of services offered within the IoT ecosystem. The investigation of IoT security has gained considerable momentum in recent times owing to the availability of simulation tools, modellers, computational and analysis platforms. The present study offers a comprehensive analysis of contemporary research regarding the security of the IoT from 2017 to 2023, encompassing an assessment of emerging trends and unresolved areas of inquiry. The primary impetus of this manuscript is to furnish a comprehensive survey of contemporary IoT security research, including the pertinent methodologies. The current research efforts are primarily focused on the automobile industry, as the scope of future investigation will continue to concentrate within this sector.The results are illustrated and emphasized via graphical depiction. Historically, discussions surrounding confidentiality, integrity, and inter-operability were prevalent, whereas in contemporary times, matters pertaining to authenticity, data privacy, and security have garnered significant attention. In order to effectively realize benefits of the IoT, it is imperative to acknowledge and address the increasing significance of integrity, confidentiality, and authenticity concerns. Such concerns will necessitate a more comprehensive and thorough approach to implementation in the future.
