With the emergent of non-conventional energy sources, different methods of power generation has also emerging. Microgrid are the small-scale energy production packets that use different energy generating sources to produce energy. Primarily, these grids can serve energy at distribution level directly to loads, but it can also work as a back up for energy distribution when on grid connected mode. It can receive and sent power to utility grid and for this several interconnections are required. The protection of these Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are important and a case of serious challenge. Hence, protection in Microgrid system with different DERs need different approach to ensure that the fault can be cleared in minimum time and supply is less interrupted. A comprehensive review of different techniques of microgrid fault protection has been discussed in this paper.
