The fresh water bodies in our ecosystem like lakes, ponds and rivers are source research and peace for ecologists. It is also the domain of algal species which contributes substantially to ecological balance. Microalgae play an important role in the ecosystem, as they are a primary source of food for aquatic organisms, including zooplankton and small fish. They also play a significant role in the global carbon cycle, as they absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. The main aim of the study was to identify microalgal flora from the three selected lakes. Collection of algal samples was carried out from three different lakes initially in the month of January and further after a gap of three months. The samples were observed in the laboratory under light microscope and identified using authentic reference books and various research journals from the department. A total of 35 genera and 52 species of microalgae were identified from three different lakes.
