Title

Generational Conflict and Social Transition in Homen Borgohain’s Pitaputra

Abstract

Homen Borgohain’s Pitaputra is a seminal Assamese novel that explores the tension between tradition and modernity in post-independence Assam. The narrative is deeply rooted in the socio-political evolution of the region, portraying conflicts between generations, caste struggles, and changing social structures. The novel’s protagonist, Shivnath, represents the conservative past, while his children embody new aspirations influenced by emerging democratic values. This research aims to critically analyze the social and psychological conflicts in the novel, emphasizing the transformation of Assamese society and its impact on individual identities.
