Marriage in India is considered as a sacred bond since Vedic period. India is a secular as well as democratic Country. So, every being obtaining adulthood has freedom to enjoy his/her life freely with anybody he/she likes. With the development of society & upgrading technology, human psychology is changing and because of that the concept of marriage and relationship has changed with time and also concept of live-in-relationship has evolved/developed. In India, husband and wife are considered to be one in the eye of Law. Marriage legally entitles to both the spouses to co-habit and the children born to out from the said wed-lock are legitimate. The wife is also entitled for the maintenance during the subsistence of marriage and even after dissolution of marriage too. Thus, the benefits of marriage bring with it various responsibilities and obligations towards each other. To enjoy benefits of co-habitation and to avoid responsibilities and obligations of traditional marriage, the concept of live-in-relationship has come into existence which provides life free from responsibilities and commitment, which is an essentiality of the marriage.
