Idioms are phrases that have a figurative or non-literal meaning that cannot be easily understood based on the literal definitions of the words in the phrase. The figurative meanings of idioms are often culturally specific and can be difficult for non-native speakers of a language to understand. Additionally, some idiomatic expressions have multiple meanings, which can add to the difficulty of interpreting their intended meaning in a particular context. Finding the meanings of idioms can be challenging for both humans and machines. Natural language processing techniques, such as distributional semantics and machine learning algorithms, have been developed to help overcome the challenges of identifying the meanings of idiomatic expressions.
