This study was carried out in Gahtelay, Crops and Livestock Corporation to study the cause of chicks’ mortality, retarded growth and infertility of adult ostriches. The study dealt with analyzing data collected through a survey; carried out by observation, questionnaire (open and close), interview and focus group discussion to randomly selected members of the farm who had enough background information about the ostriches in the farm. Nearly 100 % of the members of the farm said poor management on feeding strategies and way of handling were the main cause for the mortality, retarded growth and infertility. This could be due to lack of knowledge about scientific methodologies in the management system. Most of the time the ostriches in the site were fed wheat bran which was not adequate to their demand. The ostriches were fed on concentrates only for a few weeks in a year, but the amount of concentrates was very limited (250g/animal/day), which was not enough for their sustainability. As a result of poor feed and feeding strategies only 6 of 10 ostriches survived. Moreover, there was no cleaning practice in their shelter. In addition to this the animals had never been vaccinated against any disease.
