India, one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, is embarking on an ambitious journey towards transforming its cities into smart and sustainable urban centres. The concept of smart cities in India aligns with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set for 2030. These goals aim to address various challenges faced by urban areas, including population growth, inadequate infrastructure, environmental degradation, and socioeconomic disparities. Smart city development in India involves leveraging technology and innovation to enhance the quality of life for its citizens while ensuring efficient resource utilization. The government's flagship Smart Cities Mission has identified 100 cities across the country that will be developed as smart cities. These initiatives focus on areas such as improving urban mobility, enhancing public service delivery through digital solutions, promoting renewable energy adoption, and fostering citizen participation.
