Title

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS IN ROUND TUBE WITH CONVERGENT CONICAL RING INSERTS

Abstract

A numerical analysis of heat transfer characteristics of fluid flow through heat exchanger tubes inserted with perforated conical rings. In the present paper, the influences of the PCR on the turbulent convective heat transfer (Nu), friction factor (f) and thermal performance factor (η) characteristics have been investigated theoretically and compared numerically. The perforated conical-rings (PCRs) used are four different numbers of perforated holes N= 4, 6, 8and 10 holes and hole diameter, d is 3 mm. The number of holes varied from 0 to 10. The holes are mounted on the middle of the conical surface. and pitch ratio, p/D1 = 4 was selected in this analysis. The computation is carried out for Reynolds number in a range of 4000 to 20,000 in a uniform heat-fluxed tube. The geometric models are performed using modelling software known as CATIA. In this software, to combine the conical ring and tube, an assembly module is implemented in applicable area. ANSYS FLUENT evaluation is employed to carry out the Flow analysis. The output achieved from the different number of holes with pitch ratio are sustained with the exchangers are differentiated by describing the suitable geometric parameters and also to produce total heat to the heat exchangers.
