Title

BUSINESS ETHICS EDUCATION AND BUSINESS STUDENTS' COGNITIVE MORAL DEVELOPMENT IN INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN TANZANIA

Abstract

Private Institutions of higher learning in Tanzania, especially the faith-based institutions, have taken business ethics as a mandatory subject for business students. However, little is known about the impact of this effort. For this reason, the current study aims at investigating the impact of business ethics education on business students’ cognitive moral development. The study employed religiosity as moderating variable in the conceptual framework. Business students for the study were grouped into treatment and non-treatment. The null hypotheses tested: Business ethics education does not improve business students’ cognitive moral development; and religiosity does not mediate such influence. The results from the tests revealed that business ethics education has significant effect on business students’ moral development and religiosity explained much of the variability of the development. The present study recommends for future research to study on the relationship between business students’ cognitive moral development and their ethical behaviour improvement.
