Title

3D PRINTING IN CONSTRUCTION: EVALUATING BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES IN LOW-COST HOUSING, BRIDGES, AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Authors

Abstract

The construction industry is undergoing a transformative shift with the adoption of 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing. This technology enables the automated fabrication of structures using layer-by-layer material deposition, offering cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable solutions for infrastructure development. This research paper explores the advantages and challenges associated with the application of 3D printing in low-cost housing, bridge construction, and broader infrastructure projects. Key benefits include reduced material wastage, enhanced design flexibility, and accelerated construction timelines, while notable challenges include regulatory constraints, high initial investment, material limitations, and the need for a skilled workforce. This study also presents a review of relevant literature, analyzing prior research on the subject. Furthermore, the paper discusses the future scope of 3D printing in construction and suggests potential areas for improvement and technological advancement.
