Title

“Efficacy of Brahmi Taila Nasya in Vardhakya Janya Vikara with Special Reference to Alzheimer’s Disease”

Authors

Abstract

Elderly people's quality of life is greatly impacted by Alzheimer's disease, a progressive neurological disease marked by memory loss, cognitive decline, and behavioral abnormalities. These ailments are associated with Vardhakya Janya Vikara (age-related diseases) in Ayurveda, namely Medha Kshaya (cognitive decline), Buddhi Nasha (loss of intelligence), and Smriti Bhramsha (memory loss). With particular reference to Alzheimer's disease, the current case study assesses the effectiveness of Brahmi Taila Nasya, or the nasal administration of medicinal oil, in the treatment of age-related cognitive decline. Along with dietary and lifestyle changes, Brahmi Taila Nasya was given to a patient with a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease for the indicated amount of time. Prior to and following the intervention, clinical parameters including memory retention, orientation, concentration, and day-to-day functioning were evaluated. Memory recall, attention span, and general cognitive function all showed significant improvements, and caregiver-reported symptoms also significantly decreased. The findings imply that Brahmi Taila Nasya may improve brain function by virtue of its neuroprotective (Vata-Pitta Shamana) and nootropic (Medhya Rasayana) qualities, providing a secure and efficient adjunctive treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Large-scale clinical research is necessary to confirm these results.
