Title

Empowering Women through Literacy: A Pathway to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Jammu and Kashmir

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a cohesive set of seventeen interlinked objectives aimed at forging a sustainable future for all. Rooted in a comprehensive and multidimensional approach to development, they stand as a vital framework for addressing the myriad challenges facing humanity. These goals encapsulate the essence of inclusive and enduring progress. Within the context of India, gender discrimination against women remains a formidable challenge. Despite various government policies and initiatives, progress in this regard has been slow. The global timeline of Agenda 2030 underscores the urgency of achieving SDG targets by 2030, with women playing a pivotal role in this endeavor. However, women continue to grapple with discrimination, violence, sexual abuse, health disparities, limited opportunities, and more, exacerbating their plight. This paper sheds light on the status of women's literacy in India and underscores the pivotal role of women in advancing SDG objectives. It also examines the crucial initiatives undertaken by the Government of India to enhance the overall literacy rates among women. This study serves as a valuable resource for both public and private stakeholders engaged in SDG initiatives, women's literacy, and gender justice, informing policy development in these critical areas.
