Title

A Comparative Study of Indian Languages and Sanskrit: Uncovering Linguistic Connections and Differences

Abstract

This comparative analysis study aims to explore the linguistic connections and differences between Indian languages and Sanskrit, the ancient classical language of India. Indian languages exhibit a rich and diverse linguistic landscape, with over 1,600 languages spoken across the country. Sanskrit, as the precursor to many modern Indian languages, holds a significant place in Indian linguistic history. The study utilizes a multidimensional approach, combining linguistic, historical, and sociocultural perspectives to unravel the intricate relationships between Sanskrit and various Indian languages. By examining lexical, phonological, morphological, and syntactic features, the research aims to identify shared linguistic elements and trace their origins to Sanskrit. Furthermore, it aims to identify the linguistic innovations and changes that have taken place in individual languages over time, differentiating them from Sanskrit. The research employs a comprehensive methodology, including comparative phonetics and phonology, morphological analysis, and syntactic parsing. Extensive corpora of representative texts from various Indian languages and Sanskrit will be analyzed to identify commonalities and divergences at different linguistic levels. Furthermore, historical documentation, etymological dictionaries, and linguistic typology will be utilized to uncover historical connections and language families. The findings of this study will contribute to our understanding of the linguistic evolution of Indian languages and the enduring influence of Sanskrit on their structure and vocabulary. Additionally, it will shed light on the processes of language change and divergence, highlighting the unique linguistic features that distinguish individual Indian languages from their common ancestral language, Sanskrit. This research holds significant implications for language preservation efforts, language revitalization programs, and language policy formulation in India. The insights gained from this comparative analysis will assist in the development of effective language teaching methodologies, as well as foster a deeper appreciation of India's linguistic heritage and cultural diversity.
