Title

Status of Micro Irrigation Technology in Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

This research delves into the transformative impact of Micro Irrigation Technology (MIT) adoption in Andhra Pradesh, India. Utilizing a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study explores the implications of sustainable agricultural practices, focusing on the adoption of Micro Irrigation Systems (MIS). Results from a sample of 810 farm households reveal overwhelmingly positive outcomes, with 90% of MIS adopters reporting enhanced crop yields and improved crop quality. The economic benefits are substantial, leading to increased income, consumption, and elevated living standards. Drip irrigation emerges as the preferred MIT type, constituting 97.5% of the adopted systems. Despite challenges such as water scarcity and system maintenance, the overall impact on agriculture in the region is positive. The study recommends targeted policies, subsidies, and training programs to promote MIT adoption, particularly among marginalized communities. Strengthening extension services, region-specific technology development, and public-private partnerships are identified as key strategies for sustainable agricultural development. This research contributes valuable insights to the global discourse on technology-driven agricultural sustainability and provides a roadmap for policymakers and stakeholders in fostering resilient and efficient farming practices.
