Title

Factors affecting Consumer's intention to Purchase Electric Vehicles

Abstract

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have experienced significant growth and adoption worldwide in recent years, driven by environmental concerns, government incentives, and advancements in technology. This study focuses on understanding the factors that influence the consumer decisions of young graduates in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) who are considering purchasing a new vehicle, with a specific focus on EV adoption. Historically, EVs date back to the late 19th century, offering comfort and ease of operation compared to early gasoline-powered vehicles. However, internal combustion engines dominated the automotive industry for most of the 20th century. The resurgence of EVs in the late 2000s, aided by government incentives, has led to a growing global market, with a predicted market size of $1 trillion by 2026, as of July 2022. This study highlights the key advantages of EVs, including low running costs due to fewer maintenance requirements and their environmentally friendly nature, as they reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Modern battery electric vehicles primarily use lithium-ion batteries, known for their longevity and energy retention capabilities, albeit with some safety concerns like thermal runaway. Charging an EV is cost-effective, with home charging costing as little as £7.80 and even offering free options in public car parks. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) stand out with approximately 99% fewer moving parts requiring maintenance compared to internal combustion engines. Home charging overnight is convenient for daily commutes, while longer journeys may necessitate additional charging stops depending on terrain and battery size. Charging times vary, ranging from 30 minutes to over 12 hours, depending on charging station speed and battery capacity. This research aims to shed light on the specific factors influencing young graduates' decisions to adopt EVs in the Delhi NCR region, considering their unique preferences, needs, and circumstances. The findings from this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of EV adoption patterns among this demographic and inform policymakers and industry stakeholders on strategies to promote sustainable transportation choices.
