This essay was written on the occasion of Sushen Ghosh’s solo exhibition in Mumbai in 2023. The career of Sushen Ghosh is rather long, ranging from the 60s of the bygone century and up to the first decade of the current millennium. They are rich in experience of both the heart of the Indian experimentations in art- Santiniketan, as well as a centre of experimental thinking in the west, such as the Goldsmiths College, London. From both and from the larger experiential field, he absorbed the phenomenal as well as cultural data and went through a musical and rhythmic calculus, leading to his sculptural inspiration rife in rhythmic synchronies, thus opening a new field of abstract thought with Indian musical notes and universal-global impetus for formal harmonies.
