Title

ANALYSIS OF PHYTOCHEMICALS IN EXTRACTS OF EUPHORBIA HIRTA L

Abstract

Traditional medicine has long acknowledged the medicinal value of the plant known as asthma weed, whose scientific name is Euphorbia hirta L. To determine which bioactive chemicals in Euphorbia hirta are responsible for its medical effects, this project will perform a phytochemical screening of the plant's extracts. After collecting and drying the plant material (leaves, stems, and flowers), it was extracted solvent-free using ethanol, methanol, and water. Phytochemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and phenolic compounds were identified using qualitative testing. According to the results of the screening, Euphorbia hirta includes several different bioactive substances. The presence of alkaloids, which have antibacterial and analgesic properties, lends credence to the plant's potential utility in pain management and infection prevention. The presence of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which are recognized for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities, suggests that the plant may be useful in the management of oxidative stress and inflammation-related diseases. Traditional uses of Euphorbia hirta for the treatment of skin infections and respiratory disorders are supported by the identification of tannins and saponins, which have antibacterial and expectorant properties. Traditional medicinal applications of Euphorbia hirta have been supported by this research, which also suggests that it may be a source of natural therapeutic compounds. The potential for these phytochemicals to aid in the discovery of novel plant-based medicines necessitates more study into their quantitative properties and evaluation of their individual biological activities.
