Title

A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Educational Programme in terms of Knowledge Regarding Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Banking among B.Sc. Nursing Final Year Students Studying in Selected Nursing Colleges of Punjab

Abstract

This study has been undertaken to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Educational Programme in imparting Knowledge Regarding Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Banking among B.Sc. Nursing Final Year Students Studying in Selected Nursing Colleges of Punjab. Cord blood stem cell research has been extensively explored worldwide to enhance human health in medical settings. Stem cells have tremendous promise in helping us to understand and treat a range of various diseases, injuries and other health-related conditions. Umbilical cord blood is a readily available source of hematopoietic stem cells that treat a variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases in children and adults. The study was conducted with main objective to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational programme in terms of knowledge and attitude regarding umbilical cord stem cell banking in experimental and control groups among B.Sc. Nursing Final Year Students with quantitative approach and true experimental research design. 350 students were selected as sample 175 in experimental and 175 in control group. Sample was selected using randomization sampling technique .he results have shown that majority of students were having In terms of their age, the majority of students in both groups were between 21-23 years old, with 37.1% in the experimental group and 42.3% in the control group. The majority of participants were female, with 76.0% in the experimental group and 73.1% in the control group. In the experimental group, 29.7% of students were from rural areas, 33.7% from urban areas, and 36.6% from semi-urban areas. the posttest knowledge scores regarding umbilical cord stem cell banking between B.Sc. Nursing final year students in the experimental and control groups. The experimental group had a median (IQR) knowledge score of 10 (11) and a mean rank of 213.98 with a sum of ranks of 37,447.00. In contrast, the control group had a median (IQR) score of 8 (1) and a mean rank of 137.02 with a sum of ranks of 23,978.00. The Mann-Whitney U value was 8,578, with a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant difference in posttest knowledge scores between the experimental and control groups. This suggests that the educational program was effective in improving knowledge in the experimental group.
