Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are pivotal in fostering socio-economic development in rural India, particularly in Assam, where they promote financial inclusion and women’s empowerment. This research paper analyzes the role, impact, and challenges of SHGs in Assam using secondary data from academic journals, government reports, and institutional studies. The study examines SHG contributions under initiatives like the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) and the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme. Findings reveal that SHGs have enhanced access to credit, income generation, and social empowerment for women, though challenges such as limited market linkages and sustainability issues persist. The paper recommends policy interventions to strengthen training, market access, and digital integration. This study contributes to understanding SHGs’ role in Assam’s rural development.
