Title

Self Help Groups – A Case Study in Hailakandi District of Assam

Abstract

Abstract In the words of Martin Luther King, ““Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” The Self Help Groups (SHGs) is also an informal groups of people, they came together to find the ways to improve their standard of living. The members of SHGs are faced similar problems like economic condition lack of education. Their motto is to help each other, to solve their problems and trying to promote small savings through the NABARD. Now- a day’s educated women’s are not bound in a four wall house, they are tirelessly tried to achieve financial freedom, standard of living in the society through the Self Help Groups as well as by the help of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The Government of India has introduce various schemes for SHGs like Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) for rural areas and its urban counterpart, DAY-NULM, alongside specific programs like Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP) and Mahila Samridhi Yojana (MSY). The present studies the author have identified the role of NABARD for the development of SHGs and types of problems faced by the SHGs in the district.
