Abstract
Educators and students are expected to become increasingly technologically advanced. Many institutions have been working on strategic plans to implement online education in response to these changes. One advanced method is the use of Google Classroom. This study aimed to determine the perceptions on using Google Classroom in teaching and learning at PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College S.Y. 2022-2023. It sought to answer the following 1.) the teachers’ profile in terms of Age, Sex, Position, Teaching Experience, and Availability of Gadgets and the Learners’ profile in terms of Age, Sex, Grade Level, Family Monthly Income, and Availability of Gadgets; 2.) the perception on the use of Google Classroom considering the ease of access, usefulness, communication and interaction, instruction delivery, and satisfaction; and 3.) the significant difference in the respondents’ perception on the use of Google Classroom when grouped according to their profiles. This study employed a descriptive survey method of research. The respondents were one hundred six (106) teachers and three hundred eighty-three (383) learners, as determined through random sampling and Slovins’ formula. To answer research questions, frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics such as one-way ANOVA were used. In addition, the researcher utilized an adapted and modified questionnaire from Shaharanee et al. (2016).
The findings of the survey revealed that the majority of the teachers and learners agreed and were satisfied that Google Classroom, as an interactive educational tool, has the potential to contribute to the effective delivery of distance learning for the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between teachers' age profiles across all indicators, and for learners’ family monthly income, the indicators of communication and interaction and delivery of instruction have a significant relationship. This study concludes that Google Classroom contributes to effective distance learning instructions. It is recommended that the teacher and learner should be enthusiastic, conversant, approachable, confident, and easy to contact to strengthen communication and interaction using Google Classroom in teaching and learning.
