Title

Sustainable Construction: Lightweight Concrete through Sawdust for Green Innovation

Abstract

Lightweight concrete is a special type of concrete which has a lower density as compared to traditional concrete. Utilization of lightweight aggregates or by incorporating air or any other lightweight materialss into the concrete mix, the concrete matrix reduces its density, this reduction in density makes lightweight concrete advantageous in various construction applications where weight is a critical factor. The use of lightweight concrete in non-load-bearing members can contribute to cost savings in construction projects through reduced material, transportation, and handling expenses, as well as potential efficiencies in foundation design and construction speed. Sawdust is produced as a byproduct of woodworking and timber processing. World produces over 24.25 million cubic meters of sawdust annually, possessing several environmental challenges ranging from heath risk, when being airborne to being major source of pollution. To mitigate these challenges, the construction industry emerges to be an option for safe disposal of sawdust and emerging as a green technology, offering sustainable and environment friendly benefits in construction. In this experimental investigation fine aggregates were partially replaced by saw dust, investigation regarding engineering properties were conducted and harnessed for revolutionary benefits in the construction industry. The integration of sawdust in concrete not only results in the development of lightweight concrete but also serves as a means for the safe disposal of sawdust, promoting environmentally conscious practices. This synergy between waste utilization and construction innovation exemplifies the implementation of green technology, showcasing a sustainable approach in the development of lightweight concrete.
