Title

DEFINITION,OBJECTIVES, TYPES AND COMPONENTS OF PHARMACOVIGILANCE

Abstract

Abstract: Pharmacovigilance (PV) is crucial in healthcare, overseeing drug interactions and effects. Medications aim to heal, prevent, or treat diseases, but adverse drug reactions (ADRs) pose risks. Monitoring ADRs, from pre-marketing to post-marketing, is vital for patient safety. Pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics play a key role in understanding variable drug responses based on genetic variations. Traditional PV involves mining spontaneous reports, but the focus is shifting to unconventional data sources like electronic records and patient forums. Integrating premarketing and post-marketing data enhances safety information. Effective regulations are crucial, especially in countries like India, ensuring vigilant drug approval processes. PV facilitates community benefit through proximity to the population and healthcare practitioners. Industry, regulators, clinicians, and healthcare professionals collectively contribute to public health by optimizing patient management and avoiding illness. This overview discusses PV objectives, methodologies, challenges in India, and future prospects. Pharmacovigilance is a crucial field within healthcare focused on monitoring and assessing the safety of pharmaceutical products. Its objectives Identifying, evaluating, comprehending, and averting negative outcomes or issues related to medications include. Types of pharmacovigilance encompass spontaneous reporting, intensive monitoring, and targeted surveillance. Components involve data collection, signal detection, risk assessment, and communication strategies to ensure the ongoing safety of medications.
