Title

Critiquing the role of Subaltern Agency in the works of Bama and Imayam

Abstract

Abstract This paper attempts to analyse the novels of Bama and Imayam to present their views on the role of agency and the need for representation in the case of subalterns. Their honest observation on the functioning of the agencies like educational, legal and religious institutions is that they act as anti-subaltern rather than their representation. These agents try to subvert and subjugate the marginalised. Bama adds autobiographical elements to add more tooth to her case while Imayam painfully captures the real. Both of them are convinced to advocate self-agency to stand against the oppressions.
