Title

VAKROKTI JIBITAM A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract

Vakrokti, a classical Sanskrit literary concept meaning "twisted speech" or "oblique expression," is integral to the study of Sanskrit poetics and literary theory. Rooted in ancient Indian literary traditions, Vakrokti involves the use of indirect, elaborate, and metaphorical language to enhance the aesthetic and emotional impact of poetry and prose. This abstract explores the concept of Vakrokti, its historical development, theoretical framework, and relevance in modern contexts.Historically, Vakrokti has its origins in ancient Sanskrit texts such as Bharata Muni’s Natyashastra, which laid the groundwork for the sophisticated use of language in literature. The concept was further developed by scholars like Bhamaha and Dandin, who articulated its role in enriching poetic expression through metaphor, irony, and ambiguity. Vakrokti's theoretical framework emphasizes its function as a form of Alankara (ornamentation), contributing to the beauty and depth of literary works by employing indirect and elaborate expressions. In contemporary literature, the principles of Vakrokti continue to be influential. Modern poets, prose writers, and playwrights employ metaphorical language, irony, and ambiguity to create complex and nuanced expressions. For instance, poets like Sylvia Plath and authors like Gabriel GarcíaMárquez use metaphorical Vakrokti to explore profound themes and emotions, reflecting the concept's adaptability to modern literary practices. Additionally, Vakrokti’s influence extends to digital poetry and new media, where indirect and elaborate language enhances interactive and multimedia experiences. The principles of Vakrokti also resonate in global literary traditions and modern criticism. Western literary theorists such as Paul de Man and Northrop Frye have explored concepts similar to Vakrokti, including metaphor and irony, highlighting its impact on literary analysis and interpretation. In postcolonial literature, authors like Salman Rushdie use Vakrokti to address themes of identity and cultural conflict, demonstrating its relevance across diverse literary contexts. In conclusion, Vakrokti remains a significant and adaptable concept in both classical and contemporary literary contexts. Its application in modern literature and digital media underscores its enduring value in enhancing the aesthetic and emotional dimensions of creative expression. As literature evolves, Vakrokti continues to offer valuable insights into the art of sophisticated and impactful communication.
