Title

Effect of Video Assisted Teaching Programme on knowledge and attitude regarding the use of menstrual cup among B.Sc. Nursing students in a selected Nursing College, Guwahati, Assam.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The menstrual cycle is a naturally occurring phenomenon in women of reproductive age. Menstrual cycles are tied to reproductive health as well as other aspects of women’s health. A menstrual cup, which is a type of feminine hygiene product that is manufactured with medical grade silicone, is shaped like a bell and very flexible. Therefore, to deal with menstruation healthily and hygienically, knowledge should be provided among the B.Sc. Nursing students regarding the use of menstrual cups so that they can also provide information regarding the use of menstrual cups as a better alternative for maintaining menstrual hygiene. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A Quantitative research study was conducted using a pre-experimental (one-group pre-test post-test) research design. 162 samples were collected using the Convenient sampling technique among B.Sc. Nursing students in a selected Nursing College, Guwahati, Assam. The tools that were utilized for this study were a Structured Knowledge Questionnaire, a 3-point Likert scale, and a Video Assisted Teaching Programme regarding the use of menstrual cups. The data were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. RESULT: The finding of the study revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score (17.02) and attitude score (42.14) are significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (7.46) and attitude score (22.23) after the administration of the Video Assisted Teaching Programme regarding the use of a menstrual cup. The calculated paired ‘t’ test value of knowledge t = 30.138 and attitude t = 31.26 were both found to be statistically significant at p<0.00001 level of significance. This infers that the administration of the Video Assisted Teaching Programme regarding the use of menstrual cups among B.Sc. Nursing students were found to be effective in increasing their level of knowledge and attitude in the post-test. CONCLUSION: The study concludes that the administration of the Video Assisted Teaching Programme regarding the use of menstrual cups was effective in increasing the level of knowledge and attitude among B.Sc. Nursing students in a selected Nursing College, Guwahati, Assam.
