Title

A CASE STUDY - EFFICACY OF MANJISHTHADI TAIL ANUVASAN IN MANAGEMENT OF SIDHMA KUSHTHA (PSORIASIS) WITH SHAMAN UPCHAAR

Abstract

Psoriasis is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that manifests as small, erythematous plaques on the skin that are dry and scaly. It can significantly affect a patient's quality of life because it is frequently disfiguring and can lead to both physical and psychological distress. In this case report, a 13-year-old girl with plaque psoriasis was diagnosed and treated using Ayurvedic methods. The Vatha-Kapha dominating Mahakushta, namely Sidhma kushta, was determined to be the Ayurvedic diagnosis. Samsodhana (purification) and Shman (pacification) therapies were combined in the treatment plan. The initial course of treatment included a Panchakarma therapy called Anuvasan basti, which works to remove toxins and excess Pitta (fire) from the body through the digestive system. This was done for eight days, and then Samsamana therapy was used. This therapy uses ayurvedic medications, lifestyle changes, and dietary advice to calm the irritated doshas (Vatha, Pitta, and Kapha) in the body. The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score, which gauges the breadth and severity of psoriatic lesions on the body, was used to determine the severity of psoriasis. The PASI score was 15.7 prior to treatment, indicating moderate to severe psoriasis. However, the PASI score was zero at the end of the course of treatment, demonstrating total resolution of the psoriatic lesions. The case report showed that the patient's psoriasis significantly improved with the therapy methods used, and there was no recurrence till date. It's crucial to remember that Ayurvedic therapies are individualised, and that each person will have their own unique results. The effectiveness and safety of Ayurvedic therapy for psoriasis require more investigation and larger studies. Before beginning any Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis or any other medical problem, it's also necessary to speak with a dermatologist or Ayurvedic practitioner who is qualified in the field.
