Metronidazole is the most popular method represent of antiprotozoal medicine from the group of 5-nitroimidazole. UV-Spectroscopy is an efficient, simple and least time consuming spectroscopy method for the quantitative estimation of drug. The quantitative estimation of drug metronidazole based on UV absorbance maximum at about 320 nm wavelength of metronidazole using Dimethylformamide(DMF) and water as a solvent. Both the standard and sample was dissolved in DMF then diluted with water. The absorbance of sample and standard preparation was measured at 320 nm against solvent blank. This method can be applied for the routine estimation of metronidazole, the result of marketed formulation (METROGYL SUSPENSION 200mg) was found under the limit (90%) which indicates accuracy in result.
