Title

Morung Culture of the Nagas

Abstract

Nagaland is the 16th State of the Indian Union with a diverse culture and tradition. This paper is an attempt to present an overview of Morung Culture of the Nagas, its basic functions and the reasons for its decline. The study is based on secondary sources. The study revealed that Morung culture was prominent among the Nagas. Mainly morungs were used for the purpose of protecting the village, recreational centre, community participation, meeting halls. It was found that introduction to Christianity and modern education were the main reasons for the decline of morung culture among the tribes of Nagas.
