Title

Analysis of Inter-ethnic Marriages among Bade Dominated Communities in Birniwa/Guri/Kiri-Ka-Samma Federal Constituency. iof Nigeria

Abstract

This study, titled “Analysis of Inter-Ethnic Marriages Among Bade-Dominated Communities in Birniwa/Guri/Kiri-Ka-Samma Federal Constituency of Hadejia emirate in Nigeria,” investigates the dynamics of inter-ethnic marriages within three Local Government Areas (LGAs) comprising 31 wards. A total of 1,550 individuals were surveyed, with 487 engaged in inter-ethnic marriages with Hausas and 118 with Fulbes (Fulani) A T-Test revealed a significant difference in mean age between those in inter-ethnic marriages, with a (t)-value of (2.15) and a (p)-value of (0.031). The Chi-Square Test indicated that ethnicity and inter-ethnic marriages are not independent, as evidenced by a Chi-Square statistic of (13.84) and a (p)-value of (0.001). An ANOVA test showed significant differences in inter-ethnic marriages across LGAs, with an (F)-value of (5.67) and a (p)-value of (0.008). Lastly, a MANOVA test demonstrated that multiple variables significantly affect attitudes towards inter-ethnic marriages, with Pillai’s Trace at (0.34) and a (p)-value of less than (0.001). The findings suggest that age, ethnicity, and geographical location are significant factors in the prevalence and acceptance of inter-ethnic marriages. The study provides valuable insights into the social fabric of the Bade-dominated communities and contributes to the broader understanding of marital choices in a multi-ethnic context. The low (p)-values across tests underscore the robustness of the results, affirming the rejection of the null hypothesis and the presence of statistically significant differences and relationships.
