Title

Rectenna for Harvesting Radio Frequency to Charge IoT Devices

Abstract

With the rising demand for wireless hotspots and the installation of more and more wireless LANs in homes, restaurants, shopping centers, and public spaces, the availability of RF energy in the general population has significantly expanded in recent years. If an appropriate receiver is not used to receive and decode this available RF energy, it will be wasted. In order to take advantage of wireless communication, RF energy harvesting was developed. It can be used to power wireless sensors in Internet of Things applications. Circularly polarized array has been popularly used in various contemporary wireless communication systems such as satellite communication system, WLAN, GPS, RFID. In this project a planar Circularly polarized array antenna will be a good application of Radio Frequency energy harvesting for lot of IoT devices. The Antenna is constructed using a co-planar waveguide with a central slot acting as L-shaped strip, two chamfered corners, an asymmetrical U-shaped strip, and a stepped impedance matching substrate. Four feeding networks at 0 ⁰, 90 ⁰,180 ⁰ and 270 ⁰ are implemented using Wilkinson’s power dividers. The Aim of this project is to design a coplanar CP array antenna with a coplanar waveguide structure for efficient Radio Frequency energy harvesting, targeting its application in wide range of IoT devices. The objective is to achieve high- performance characteristics, including a broad bandwidth, high gain and directivity and superior radiation, to enable effective RF energy harvesting for IoT devices.
