Title

A Study on Metacognitive Awareness and Mathematics Anxiety among Secondary School Students

Abstract

This research focused on exploring the correlation between Metacognitive Awareness and Mathematics Anxiety of Secondary School Students. 63 Secondary School Students were selected as sample adopting random sampling technique. Using a quantitative survey approach the study measured Metacognitive Awareness using Metacognitive Awareness Inventory by Schraw.G and Dennison (1994) and Mathematics Anxiety by Mathematics Anxiety Scale by Ayatollah Karimi and Venkatesan (2011). Statistical analyses t-tests and correlation analysis were applied to verify the hypothesis. The t-test results indicated that there is no significant difference in Metacognitive Awareness of male and female students and there was a significant difference in Mathematics Anxiety of male and female students. The correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between Metacognitive Awareness and Mathematics Anxiety among Secondary School Students.
