ABSTRACT
An investigates the central role of libraries within the higher education landscape, specifically focusing on 28 Arts and Science colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The research examines how these libraries, pivotal to the educational structure, adapt to rapid alterations in course structure, syllabi updates, and semester system implementation. It emphasises the necessity of robust infrastructure and efficient information resources to meet the evolving needs of faculty members and research scholars. The study scrutinises institutional characteristics, usage, attitudes towards physical and digital infrastructures, and perceived barriers to information accessibility. It further aims to identify significant variables influencing respondents' perceptions. These findings help formulating effective strategies for library evolution, prioritising both physical and digital transformations. Hypotheses, focusing on correlations between library visits, demographic characteristics, and perceptions of library collections, services, and issues, are also explored. Data were collected via structured questionnaires, distributed through personal administration and email, from a random sample technique of faculty members and research scholars. The data, subsequently classified, edited, and analysed with MS Excel and SPSS, employing descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The limitation of the study pertains to its exclusive focus on 28 arts and science colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University, established between 12 to 25 years ago. In this study organised into five chapters: Introduction, Literature Review, Research Methodology, Data Analysis and Interpretation, and Findings, Conclusions, Suggestions and Scope for further research. The study culminates in the recognition of continuous enhancement in library practices as a strategic imperative for improving educational outcomes. It illuminates the need for regular assessments of library resources, facilities, and ICT-based services, underscoring their significant influence on academic communities. Overall, the study reveals that the libraries in the 28 Arts and Science colleges have drawn a good rating of its availability and use of Physical and ICT infrastructure, collection of library resources and services offered from the faculty members and research scholars.
