India had a very rich tradition of music since the Vedic age. This age-old music has gone through various transformations which ultimately led to the development of Hindustani music. Though, the art form was mainly carried on in Guru-Sishya tradition, yet along with the need and demand of time, there have been some changes in its teaching and learning. The art-form, which begins its journey in the Gurukul tradition is a part of the institutional curriculum in the contemporary society.
