Graphene is a single-layer, two-dimensional carbon honeycomb nanomaterial. Due to its excellent thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, current density, electron mobility and surface area Graphene and graphene oxide are widely used in material science, bio-medicine technology and other fields. Graphene oxide as precursor of graphene has been synthesized from coal via Exfoliation and Cleavage, Arc discharge, chemical vapour deposition (CVD), oxidation-cum-extraction (OCE), chemical leaching, template synthesis, chemical oxidation-reduction, thermal treatment and dielectric-barrier discharge (DBD) plasma are a few of the experimental techniques. Hummer’s Method is used in the commercial synthesis of graphene oxide. Characterization of graphene oxide produced was conducted through several analysis such as X-Ray Diffraction analysis, Fourier Tr,ansform Infra Red (FTIR), UV-Visible Spectrophotometry and SEM EDS. This paper summarized the utilization of graphene across a range of fields, encompassing environment, energy, biomedical applications, sensors, bio-sensors, and heat sinks.
