Title

STUDY OF ALTRUISM AND PERSONALITY PATTERNS AMONG SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract

This paper explores study of altruism and personality patterns among school teachers. The main focus of this paper is School teacher’s personality patterns and altruism by the respective on the basis of gender. This study was carried out on 150 school teachers from Ludhiana District only. The samples were randomly assigned to the study. The Dimensional Personality Inventory by Bhargava (2006) and Altruism Scale by Rai and Singh (2004) was used for data collection. Data were analyzed by mean and correlational analysis. It has been identified that no significant relationship exists between altruism and personality among male and female teacher. There exists significant difference in the mean scores of altruism among teachers in regards. Further the mean scores of altruism of male teachers is higher in the comparison of female teachers. This may be that male teachers are more selfless in comparison to female teachers. No significant difference exists in the mean scores of personality patterns among teachers in regard to the gender. The mean score of personality of male teachers is higher in comparison to female teachers. This may be due to the fact that they are more active, enthusiastic, assertive, trusting, and emotionally stable.
